Depression is a psychological disorder that many people suffer from in varying degrees. It is a serious condition, which affects a person’s ability to take pleasure in daily activities, and restricts the ability to function. There are many medications available that alleviate the symptoms that affect so many people. Recently, many new antidepressants for depression treatment have been developed which promise greater efficacy with fewer side effects.
One new type of antidepressant that has been approved by the FDA relatively recently is known as a selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. It is primarily used to treat anxiety. It restores the chemical balance within the brain, allowing for the patient to be able to function normally. This drug should not be taken with other medications for anxiety and depression unless advised by a doctor.
Among the brand, new antidepressants for fighting depression is a medicine called reboxetine (Edronax). Patients will see the effects of this drug after about two weeks. It is used for clinical depression accompanied by counseling and for maintaining clinical improvement. This particular drug is a little different than the other in that it is used to sustain progress and improvement, not as a starting point of treatment. There are some side effects to this drug, which can include increased risk of seizure, low blood pressure and should not be combined with other medications.
Many antidepressants take several weeks to become effective and also for the patient to show signs of improvement. Scopolamine is a new drug available, which rapidly changes and improves mood. Scopolamine works by temporarily stopping the muscarinic cholinergic receptor, which doctors say is overactive in people diagnosed with depression. A benefit of the drug is that it becomes effective within three to four days versus three to four weeks. Before trying any treatment for any degree of depression, talk with your doctor or psychiatrist to find out the best method available.
